DIY Russian IRP Heater.

Bought this item because I was looking for an alternative way of heating canned/retort packed foods(ex:Corned Beef, Tuna Flake, Sardines, etc) , or MRE's that has no FRH(Flameless Ration Heaters.) as seen from a Russian IRP(Individual Ration Pack) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWhf36-YntQ The Russian IRP has hexamine tablets in its pack, which gave me the idea.

What´s the shelf life?

Customer

Hi. The fuel tabs are Hexamine. It has an almost infinite shelf life if stored properly, in a sealed dry container. Thanks.

Can this Esbit fuel cubes be ignited with a ferro .? And can this be used in high altitude @7000meters ?

Customer

Hi. According to the reviews in Amazon: They are not hard to light, but need a flame held to the cubes for about 15 seconds. Kindly check this link for reference: https://www.amazon.com/ask/questions/Tx1JUYZ25Y7GAY0/ref=ask_ql_ql_al_hza

As per its product description in Amazon: it works at high altitude. Kindly check this link for reference: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NGMJLY/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

can you blow them out if you're done and dont want to use it all up?

Customer

Hi. It is not indicated in the product description but as per the reviews from the internet: You can blow out the unused portion of an ESBIT cube and relight it later. Kindly check this link for your reference: https://sectionhiker.com/ultralight-cooking-without-a-stove-or-a-fuel-container/ Thanks.

what exactly are these things made of? i saw a "fire cube" at a local hardware, it was just candle wax.

The Esbit is a hexamine fuel tablet. It is a form of solid fuel in tablet form. The tablets burn at 1400 degrees Farenhiet smokelessly, have a high energy density, do not liquefy while burning and leave no ashes. Since I purchased the Stove it has worked great. I use it primarily as a backup stove. It will boil water, in the pot with the stove, in about 8 mins. The Tabs are also a great fire starter if wood is wet.
