LifeStraw Family 1.0 Water Purifier

The LifeStraw Family 1.0 uses advanced hollow fiber technology that is proven to effectively remove  viruses, bacteria, and protozoan parasites, and turbidity (cloudiness or haziness of a fluid). It has easy-to-use and easy-to-clean pre-filter and purification cartridge. It does not require running water or piped-in water supply, nor electrical power, batteries, or replacement parts.

How it Works

LifeStraw® Family uses advanced hollow fiber technology. Water is forced through narrow fibers under high pressure. Clean water exits through tiny pores in the walls of the hollow fibers, but bacteria, protozoa, and other contaminants are trapped inside the hollow fibres and are flushed out by backwashing. This is a highly efficient method of filtration.

1. Fill the feed water bucket with unpurified water (2 litre capacity)
2. The 80 micron textile pre-filter (inside the feed water bucket) removes coarser particles and is easy to clean
3. Water passes through the metre-long blue PVC hose and gravity creates sufficient pressure on the membrane cartridge in order to reach a high flow rate
4. Ultra filtration takes place in the hollow fibre membrane cartridge – a pore size of 20 nanometre retains bacteria, viruses, parasites and fine dirt particles
5. Turn blue tap to release purified water
6. Squeeze the red backwash bulb three times with both taps closed to backwash the membranes then open the red tap to release the dirty water containing dirt and impurities.
7. Exit valve disposes the dirt and impurities

NOTE:

We inquired from LifeStraw distributor and were informed that there is actually no shelf life on the LifeStraw products. It used to be 3 years then 5 years, as that was as far as it had been tested. But there is nothing in the LifeStraw that will deteriorate over time. It will last as long as its filtering capacity. Thanks.
