Cols Steels' G.I. Tanto is a no-nonsense tactical knife that comes with a legion of practical uses. The GI Tanto’s broad blade, integral quillon guard, and Polypropylene handle scales exemplify a tactical knife stripped down to its bare essentials. Made from spring tempered 1055 carbon steel and protected by a rust resistant finish, it’s rugged, hard-wearing and dependable. Popular with sport throwers, the GI Tanto is perfectly balanced and capable of being thrown by the blade or handle. In a survival or self-defense situation, it can be quickly and easily converted into a spear too! Just remove the handle scales and lash the blade securely to a suitable wooden shaft!Best of all, it’s a great value blade – inexpensive enough to buy duplicates to keep as back-up or bug-out bag knives, or even just to throw for fun on a sunny day. Got this to pair with my Cold Steel War Hawk for outdoor use. The included Secure-Ex sheath is quite nice. For the price, use it hard and not worry about a costly replacement.

When I first saw this I wanted to order it right away but at that time it was out of stuck. So, when I received the message from Mam Miriam that the knife is available I didn't think twice ordered it right away. Happy I got this, I always wanted a self defense knife that is sharp, made of good materials and can with stand a lot of beating. This knife has it all. Thanks T. A.

The quality is subpar with other Cold Steel knives. The fit and finish where rough. The bevels were uneven on the two that i bought. The primary point is off center. The tang had uneven sections. The box didn't have a QR code. TA's services were superb as always.

The knife was not as bulky as I expected. It will hang comfortably on a belt or tuck away nicely in a bag. Factory edge is good and the scales are locked up solid. Time will tell if this particular Secure-Ex sheath dulls the edge.
None of these cons are really dealbreakers, but they're still worth noting. The top guard gets in the away when you choke up on the knife for more precise work, and the straight profile of the handle may cause slipping if you don't grip it well. Still, it makes for a great backup knife. The design would have benefitted from the removal of the top guard and the omission of the finger choil in exchange for more cutting edge.

All in all great knife to have. No fuss, just quality built work horse of a knife.
The only downside is that the secure-ex sheath dulls the blade just after a handful of sheathing. But still, a must have to you knife collection.

This knife is definitely worth it. I managed to cut a tree of a fairly thick diameter with this knife and had very minor edge problems but not enough to hinder the performance of the knife. For battoning the knife held well something to take note though the back portion of the blade can damage the batton because it is sharp but not sharp enough to cut properly. Definitely a knife you would want if your on a budget but need a knife that can more than expensive knives. Recommended
