I was not only able to dig with this but also able to split small logs and cut down small trees with it. It can take a lot of abuse since the edge retention is really good and the steel is very thick.

I am impressed by the solid build and sharpness of the shovel's edges straight from the box. A must-have for long road trips and useful tool also for roadside, vehicular emergencies. The long handle gives more leverage and momentum than the short-handled folding shovels that are almost like garden trowels in dimensions. This can also double as a self-defense tool when needed (I prefer this one over a baseball bat anytime).

Removed a tree stump in front of our plot, it made the job much easier. . . . two thumbs up for the cold steel shovel.
